For many patients, the optimal window is between 25 and 35. Before age 35, egg quality and ovarian reserve (egg quantity) are generally stronger, but egg freezing can still be worth discussing after age 35 depending on your AMH level and medical history.
Your AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) is a more personalized indicator than age alone. Pollin includes AMH testing in the initial consultation for egg freezing patients, so your physician can help you understand your real starting point and whether egg freezing is right for you.
Pollin offers egg freezing consultations for patients from their early 20s through their early 40s, with comprehensive fertility testing to personalize your recommendation.
*The number of eggs you should freeze depends on your age, medical history, AMH level and personal future family building goals.
10-15 mature eggs may be a starting reserve
15-20 mature eggs be recommended
20+ mature eggs, and may require two cycles
These are starting points, *based on published population-level research, not guarantees.
A patient with a high AMH at 37 may reach her target in one cycle. A patient at 30 with diminished ovarian reserve may need two. Your Pollin physician will calculate a personalized egg target based on your actual testing results — not population averages.

Pollin offers the VIOLET™ assessment report from Future Fertility, as an optional add-on to your egg freezing cycle to help you better understand your likelihood of future pregnancy success with the eggs you’ve frozen.
Information about egg quality can help you and your physician make more informed decisions about the number of egg freezing cycles you may need to reach your future family-building goals.
VIOLET™ from Future Fertility uses AI-assisted egg quality assessment technology to evaluate mature retrieved eggs before freezing. It helps identify quality indicators in egg morphology that are not reliably visible to the human eye alone.
What this means for you: the eggs you freeze at Pollin are assessed and documented, giving you and your physician a clearer picture of your reproductive reserve.

Egg freezing at Pollin starts from $8550 per cycle, including all consultations, monitoring, retrieval, vitrification, and first-year storage. Annual storage fees apply after year one. Elective egg freezing is not covered by OHIP, though some benefits plans provide partial coverage.
Fertility medications used to stimulate the ovaries to produce more eggs are additional costs and are dependent on your protocol.
Elective (social) egg freezing is not covered by OHIP or the OFP. Medical egg freezing — for patients facing cancer treatment or another condition affecting fertility — may be eligible for partial coverage through your referring specialist.
The Ontario Fertility Program (OFP) covers IVF (when eggs are fertilized to create embryos) but not egg freezing specifically. The initial fertility consultation at Pollin is covered by OHIP for Ontario residents.
Egg freezing is a fertility preservation process that involves stimulating the ovaries with hormones to produce multiple eggs that are retrieved from the ovaries and then frozen.
In the future, these eggs can be thawed and combined with sperm to create embryos that are implanted in the uterus for pregnancy.
Most fertility specialists recommend freezing eggs before 35, but medical history, AMH level and ovarian reserve can make the answer more personalized.
Biology - The quality and quantity of your eggs decrease as you age, leading to decreased pregnancy rates and increased miscarriage rates. Egg freezing allows you to freeze a group of good quality eggs for future use.
Reproductive Autonomy - Egg freezing is a technology that gives you the ability to be proactive about your fertility and delay pregnancy until you are ready - personally, professionally and financially.
Medical Reasons - The treatment of certain medical conditions, such as various autoimmune diseases, endometriosis or various cancers, can affect the quality and quantity of the eggs in the ovaries or even the ovaries themselves. These treatments can include certain immunosuppressant medications, pelvic surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Gender-Affirming Care - Transgender individuals with ovaries may wish to freeze their eggs prior to commencing gender-affirming treatment, as these treatments can affect the quality and production of eggs. Egg freezing allows for more options once a couple or individual is ready to start or grow their family.
Although everyone’s experience is different, the most important predictors of a successful pregnancy are:
Age - The younger you are when you freeze your eggs, the better your chances of having a healthy birth in the future. Egg freezing should ideally occur before the age of 35, but egg freezing remains a good option for women or anyone with ovaries over 35, especially if their egg number is high.
Number of Frozen Eggs - The more eggs you have frozen, the better your chances of success in the future. That’s because not all frozen eggs survive the thawing process, not all thawed eggs fertilize into embryos, and not all embryos become a successful pregnancy.
Ovarian Reserve - This is a measure of the number of eggs in your ovaries, directly related to your age. We will perform a comprehensive assessment of your ovarian reserve before determining if egg freezing is right for you.
The stimulation phase involves daily self-administered injectable medications, which most patients manage comfortably at home after a brief training appointment.
The egg retrieval procedure is performed under sedation — you are asleep and feel nothing during the procedure. Most patients describe mild cramping or bloating for 1–2 days after retrieval, which resolves quickly.
We will store frozen oocytes on-site for a period of up to 15 years, or until you reach the age of 51, whichever comes first.
The odds of a future pregnancy will depend on many factors, such as your age at the time of egg freezing, and the number of eggs retrieved.
It is important to note that egg freezing is not a guarantee for a future pregnancy. Every patient is different and your Pollin physician will transparently discuss the benefits vs. risks of the procedure based on your medical history, diagnostic test results and future family building goals.
Start with an OHIP-covered consultation and get personalized guidance based on your medical history, age, AMH, ovarian reserve, and future family building goals.
