FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to the questions our patients ask the most.

Do I need a referral for a fertility consultation?

Yes, you do need a referral to see a fertility specialist in Ontario, however Pollin can facilitate one for you through an OHIP-covered, virtual appointment with our partner GP if you do not have your own GP.

You can book an initial consultation directly through our website without a referral and a member of our care team will contact you before your appointment date to get you set up with one.

What happens during the first visit?

If you attend your first visit in person at either Pollin Toronto or Pollin Ottawa, you will have an opportunity to meet our team members, get a feel for the space and then meet 1:1 with your fertility doctor.

During this appointment, you will review your medical and fertility history, family building goals, discuss questions or concerns you may have and learn about the testing that will be ordered for you, and your partner if applicable.

Do I need to pay out of pocket for fertility testing?

At Pollin, your initial consultation, most diagnostic testing, and follow-up is covered by OHIP for eligible Ontario residents.

The AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) blood test, which is used to estimate ovarian reserve is $125.  If you or your partner require advanced sperm or genetic testing, there could be some out of pocket costs.

Where do I need to go for testing?

We recommend you visit Pollin Toronto or Pollin Ottawa for your testing, however if you live closer to one of our satellite clinics in Markham or Sudbury, you can *complete your testing closer to home.
*advanced testing may require travel to Toronto or Ottawa clinics.

What happens after testing?

Your results will be sent directly to your patient app and your care team will book your follow up appointment for you to discuss your, and your partner’s results, if applicable. Your doctor will also explain the treatment options available to you so you can choose your next step.
