Penthrox Use Patient Instructions (for Endometrial Biopsy or Sonohysterogram or IUD insertion)

  1. What is Penthox?
  • Penthrox is an Inhalation vapour used for the relief of moderate to severe pain in conscious patients
  • It is very quick to wear off
  • You will be advised to stay in waiting room from 15 minutes to 60 minutes as per the physician’s discretion, as it depends on your reaction to Penthrox 
  • You must have a ride home after you are discharged to home
  • This medication will be prescribed to you, where you will pay for the medication on your Pollin App

  1. Confirm that you do not have any of the following. If you said yes to any, you cannot use Penthrox:
  • History of family history of malignant hyperthermia
  • Allergy to fluorinated anesthesia
  • Significant kidney or liver impairment
  • Notify the clinic of any known allergies, especially to anesthesia, antiseptics, or medications.

  1. Common Side Effects
  • Cough
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Amnesia
  • Headache
  • Nausea

  1. Appointment Preparation
  • Confirm Appointment Details:
    • Date and time of the procedure.
    • Arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork and pre-procedure assessments.
  • Pay for your Penthrox prescription on the Pollin App:
    • Once paid for, the clinical team will provide you with the medication for use during your procedure.

  1. Transportation:
  • Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you and drive you home
  • Avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or signing important documents for the remainder of the day.

  • After your procedure completion, if you have any questions, please reach out to your Primary Care Team via phone or your Pollin App chat.
