Discharge Instructions: Embryo Transfer
December 18, 2024
Congratulations on completing your embryo transfer procedure. To maximize the chances of a successful implantation and pregnancy, please follow these guidelines:
01. Rest and Relaxation
Plan to take it easy for the rest of the day following the embryo transfer. Avoid strenuous activities and excessive physical exertion. Consider taking the day off work or at least minimizing stress and physical activity.
02. Hydration and Nutrition
Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Hydration is important for a healthy pregnancy. Maintain a balanced and nutritious diet. Consider foods rich in nutrients beneficial for early pregnancy.
03. Medications
Follow the prescribed schedule and dosage of your medications meticulously, and continue until your first HCG test. If you have any concerns or questions about your medications, contact your Primary Care Team promptly.
04. Avoid Certain Substances
Refrain from consuming alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drugs, limit caffeine intake, and avoid excessive heat (pads, hot baths, saunas, etc.).
05. Emotional Well-being
Remain positive and reduce stress. Engage in activities that bring you comfort and relaxation. Communicate with your support network and consider counselling or support groups if needed.
06. Activities and Exercise
Light activities are generally acceptable, but avoid strenuous exercise or activities that may cause physical stress until after your bloodwork.
Intercourse: It is best to wait until after your pregnancy test. The uterus is the safest place for an embryo, especially when it is relaxed (ie. not contacting). Having an orgasm could hinder an embryo’s ability to properly implant. In addition, transfer medications can make the cervix more prone to spotting, causing unnecessary anxiety.
07.Pregnancy Test
Try and resist the urge to take a test before your scheduled day, as inaccurate results can cause unnecessary stress.
08. Patience and Positivity
Understand that implantation and early pregnancy involve a waiting period. Be patient and maintain a positive mindset. Contact your Primary Care Team if you experience any unusual symptoms or have concerns.
