Discharge Instructions: Cyst Aspiration

01. Rest and Recovery
- Allow yourself time to rest at home following the cyst aspiration procedure.
- Limit strenuous activities for at least 24 hours.
02. Medication
- Take any prescribed medications as directed by your care team. A review of all medications will be done prior to discharge.
- Over-the-counter pain relievers may be recommended for mild discomfort.
03. Hydration
- Maintain good hydration by drinking plenty of fluids.
- Report any signs of dehydration, such as dizziness or dark urine, to your healthcare provider.
04. Monitoring
- Keep an eye on the puncture site for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge.
- Monitor for symptoms related to the original cyst, such as pain or changes in size.
05. Activity Restrictions
- Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activities for at least the first 24 hours.
- Gradually resume normal activities based on your comfort level and healthcare provider's guidance.
06. Dietary Recommendations
- Follow any dietary restrictions or recommendations provided by your healthcare provider.
- Maintain a balanced diet to support recovery.
07. Follow-up Appointments
- Schedule and attend all follow-up appointments 3-4 weeks post-surgery.
- Discuss any concerns or changes in your condition during these visits.
08. Signs of Complications
- Be vigilant for signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge vaginally.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe pain, fever, or any other unusual symptoms.
09. Emotional Well-being
- Understand that emotional reactions are common after medical procedures.
- Seek support from your care team, friends, or family if needed.
10. Contact Information
- Keep contact information for your healthcare provider readily available in case of any questions or concerns. Your care team will do a wellness check 24-48 hrs post-procedure.
- In case of emergency, know the location of the nearest emergency medical facility.
11. Resuming Normal Activities
- No driving 24 hrs post-anesthesia; resume normal activities in 24-48 hours.
- Wait 10 days for tub baths/swimming, intercourse or tampon use.
